Guyana Carnival Parade rocks Georgetown

first_imgGuyanese from all walks of life flocked the route to observe and participate in this year’s Guyana Carnival Parade in observance of Guyana’s 53rd Independence Anniversary.As expected, the revellers rocked the streets and delivered, even though the inclement weather prevented the events from starting at the scheduled time.The three main “party trucks” assembled at the corner of Camp and Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown, around 14:00h before heading to the D’Urban Park around 18:00h where it concluded.Thousands of Guyanese who came out to support the event were blown away by the phantasmagoria of colours that was showcased by the revellers who were all decked out in costumes.Some of the patrons who were looking on from the sidelines were decked out in their very best outfits as they enjoyed the scenery that was provided by the revellers, who put on a show that would attract any passerby to join the festivities.Guyana Times spoke to a few thrilled patrons who related that the Guyana Carnival Parade did not disappoint. Keisha Bacchus told this news publication that this is her second year participating and to her surprise, it was better than last year’s event. “More people participate in the parade and the beauty about it is that families get together and line the streets just to get a feel.”She further stated that a lot of foreigners were observed gyrating in the streets, which boosts Guyana’s tourism.Clive Forde, who was observed with his family viewing the parade, said: “I’m just happy to be here with my family, celebrating 53 years of Independence”. He continued by saying that he loves the way the country is developing and he is quite excited to see where our country is headed.One of the organisers of the events and a well-known personality in the entertainment sector of Guyana, Robbie Singh, said that he worked tirelessly to ensure “Pulse Band” produced an even better experience than last year.He stated that the idea is to never take away the authentic Guyanese culture but to give our country more exposure since Carnival is globally recognised. In closing, he stated that it is a beautiful experience and, therefore, Guyanese should support the Carnival body in the future.Guyana Carnival is a privately owned festival in Georgetown, Guyana, during the month of May.
